Today reminds us of the 1983 world cup

Today at the World Cup 2007, while Sri Lanka plays Australia, the situation is same as that of India in 1983 when we played defending world champions West Indies, considered to be a much stronger team.

If Sri Lanka does not lose openers early, it is their game. They tend to lose their confidence and control of the game if they lose early wickets whereas Australia, continue to bat normally without lowering their run-rate and showing total control of the match. This is where the difference lies - confidence and self-control.

Sri Lanka should not face a problem on their bowling front but their batsmen need to be in business today - no failures today are acceptable - each one needs to perform.
