The match to decide the wooden spoon winners, went down to the wire, and the script could not have been much better.
On a sluggish pitch, Deccan Chargers won the toss and surprisingly, elected to field first. The Bangalore Royal Challengers brought in Bharat Chipli, who opened with Wasim Jaffer. Jaffer played one of his better T20 innings, and along with Virat Kohli later, propped up their score to 156/8. It would have been much more, but for Pragyan Ojha’s stifling spell in the middle overs.
In reply, Laxman played well, and so did Rohit Sharma – both hit half centuries – but Praveen Kumar’s late burst of wickets and a couple of dodgy decisions by the umpires meant that DC needed 20 off the last over. A couple of sixes by Bangar brought them close, but in the end, it was a case of too little too late.
BRC won by 3 runs, the closest win of the IPL so far.
