Women’s Asia Cup Cricket? Who cares anyways!

Mithali Raj - captain of the Indian teamYeah, just when everyone’s going gung ho about IPL, or probably even criticizing it for its affect on the real cricket, i.e. Tests, the Indian Women Cricket team is slogging it out in a four nation ODI series, against the other Asian nations, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

They have won their first two matches, against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and today they are taking on arch-rivals Pakistan. India is led by Mithali Raj, who is a very prolific scorer at international level. In Neetu David, we have one of the better spinners in the world, while Jaya Sharma is a good ODI opener and then, we have the fastest bowler in the world, Jhulan Goswami – also the recipient of the first ever ICC award for the Best Cricketer of the Year.

Any takers for this “Sport”?

  1. Despite the good performance of the women’s team, they have never got the goodwill they deserve. Then again, no one can be forced to accept anything. No one is fond of women’s cricket, or even hockey for that matter. Let’s accept the truth.
