Jayasuriya thumps Chennai

In a match that was marked for Sachin Tendulkar’s comeback, Sanath Jayasuriya stole the thunder with a sizzling century to set up a nine wicket win against the Chennai Super Kings.

Put into bat, Chennai lost early wickets as they were reduced to 46 for 4 by the ninth over and it almost seemed over for them at that moment. However, Badrinath and Dhoni came together and like the last match, saved the team blushes again, adding 95 runs for the fifth wicket. Badrinath scored his second consecutive half century and Dhoni remained unbeaten on 43, as they plundered around 70 runs in the last five overs.

In reply, Mumbai Indians had two greats of the game, Sachin and Sanath opened the innings and they got off with a bang. They raced to 50 off 4 overs and at 82, Sachin was bowled by Joginder Sharma for 12 runs. He had hit a six over third man.

But the night was about Jayasuriya, who scored a belligerent 114 off 44 balls, hitting 11 sixes and 9 fours. The match was over with 37 balls to spare.
