Mumbai thrash Kolkata, Tendulkar proving lucky captain

In what was supposed to be a clash of the titans, it turned out to be a pretty much one-sided match. The Knight Riders did not get anywhere close to the riding they are used to and the Mumbai Indians squashed them like a piece of lemon.

The MIs started off pretty well by claiming wickets like domino’s with no batsman surviving their excellent bowling attack. Pollock and Nehra started the bowling attach - a very controlled bowling attack. Pollock claimed 3 wickets, while Nehra remained wicketless. Bravo, Raje and Thornely followed with an equally good bowling attack and claimed 2 wickets each. The good bowling was complimented with the good fielding giving away very few extras. The KKRs were sent back home for only 67 all out, the lowest total in IPL. Tendulkar secured another record to his name - the maximum number of catches in an innings i.e. 4 catches of Butt, Saha, Agarkar and Akhtar.

With such a low total, the Knight Riders had very few expectations to start with. Even all the Shoaibs, Sharmas and Agarkars could not save them. They did manage to get Tendulkar’s wicket early on followed by Uthappa’s wicket. Apart from this, SRK’s team had nothing to offer today. Any hopes that they might have had (dream on!!!), Jayasuriya took them by storm. He scored 48 of 17 balls which included 7 fours and 3 sixes. The game was over in under 6 overs.

Pollock was declared the Man of the Match for his outstanding bowling.

Not only did the match prove good for Ambani’s team, it was also a relief for the Delhi DareDevils who now have a chance for the semi-final birth. Teams like these are like dark horses who win a tournament by sneaking in. Careful RRs and CSKs.
