Mumbai Indians win 6 in a row

The Mumbai Indians continued their splendid showing in the IPL by becoming the first team to win six matches in a row. This is an amazing turnaround to a poor start to the tournament, whence they lost four consecutive matches. But since then, a lot has changed and now they sit pretty amongst the top teams in the competition.

Adam Gilchrist won the toss for the Deccan Chargers and put the opposition into bat, who got off to another great start, courtesy of the dream opening partnership of Jayasuriya and Tendulkar. The duo added 39 in only 3 overs, before the team from Mumbai suffered minor jolts. They were reduced to 96 for 4 in the 13th over, before a solid partnership between Dwayne Bravo and Abhishek Nayyar saw them reaching 179 in their allotted 20 overs. RP Singh took three wickets to win the Purple Cap, while Afridi took two to suggest that this might be his day.

However, the Deccan Charger opener flattered to deceive once again, holing out for a first ball duck. And when Gilchrist departed with the score at 20 in the 5th over, it once again meant that the match was beyond the Hyderabad team’s reach. Venugopal Rao scored a gritty fifty, but it wasn’t enough as Bravo added 3 wickets to his batting exploits to end up as the man-of-the-match in his last game of the IPL.
