Manpreet Gony, the lanky Punjab fast bowler, will join the Indian squad for the Bangladesh tri-series as a replacement for S. Sreesanth, who was ruled out after suffering a side strain.
Gony, 24, has had a remarkable rise to fame since making his List A debut earlier this year and many believe that he was on the verge of giving up cricket for the lack of opportunities before the IPL offer came along. He gave in some handy performances in the first edition of the tournament playing for Chennai Super Kings, under the watchful eyes of India ODI captain MS Dhoni. He was instrumental in taking his team to the final as he finished with 17 wickets from 16 matches at 26.05, which made him the leading wicket-taker for Chennai and fourth highest overall.
Sreesanth suffered a left side strain in the final league match for Kings XI Punjab against Rajasthan Royals.
