India beat Bangladesh by 7 wickets in the third and final ODI of the league stage in the Kitply cup 2008.
Bangladesh won the toss and captain Mohd. Ashraful elected to bat first. RP Singh coming in place of Ishant Sharma struck soon as also did his new ball partner Praveen Kumar as the hosts were reduced to 17 for 2 in 5 overs. The batting side never really recovered from these blows and as the Indian spinners tied them down, could only manage to set a target of 223. Raqibul Hassan top scored with 89 but was not supported enough otherwise the total might have been a bit higher.
Bangladesh needed to win to have any hopes of reaching the final, but they were hit by a whirlwind Sehwag and Gambhir who were again on the rampage adding 85 in just 9 overs. After Sehwag left, Gambhir continued in the company of first Rohit Sharma and then Yuvraj Singh to register India’s second win on the trot, as he brought up his ton.
India now play Pakistan in the final on Saturday.
