Former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya on Monday made his intention clear to contest the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) elections, saying there was no legal hurdles for him.
A Mumbai court on Monday deferred the case, which was filed by BCCI against him for allegedly misappropriating Rs 29 million from the PILCOM funds, to December 19.
Dalmiya thinks the case was not an impediment for him to contest against incumbent CAB President Prasun Mukherjee in the elections scheduled for next month. Dalmiya was at the helm of CAB for 13 years at a stretch before relinquishing in December 2006.
Known as a master negotiator, Dalmiya was the first Asian chief of the ICC (1997-2000) before becoming secretary of the BCCI (1993-1996) and then the president (2001-2005). Having been ousted by the Union minister Sharad Pawar in the January 2006 BCCI polls, Dalmiya was expelled from the Board for alleged misappropriation of funds.
