Bangladesh managed to convince that they are indeed the fourth best team in Asian cricket and that the Asia cup will not provide any surprises for them against the minnows.
After wining the toss and electing to bat on a flat Lahore pitch, captain Mohammed Ashraful led the way with a stroke filled century. He has been under fire for his recent form but has now silenced the critics with fighting displays since he has started coming at number three. He was ably supported first by opener Tamim Iqbal and then by Raqibul Hassan who made 83, as Bangladesh piled up 300 in their allotted overs.
Once the target was above 250, UAE were never in the chase and although Khurram Khan scored a fighting half century, the other wickets fell at regular intervals and they were not able to sustain the run chase, getting bowled out for 204.
Bangladesh have progressed to the next round as it is obvious that Sri Lanka will not lose to UAE.
