Sri Lanka’s Sanath Jayasuriya simply refuses to come out of the IPL mode. The most experienced batsman in his team went on the rampage as Sri Lanka look like setting a record total in an ODI in their semis league match in the Asia Cup in Karachi.
On a pitch that seemed to assist the bowlers more than the featherbeds seen over the past few days, Sri Lanka won the toss, elected to bat and their openers quickly dispelled the notion. Sangakkara and Jayasuriya went on the rampage from the word go as they brought up the fifty in eight overs and the hundred even quicker, in 12 overs.
So much so that Jayasuriya had completed his century off just 55 balls, which is the sixth fastest hundred in ODI history. Jayasuriya is also the second oldest man to score a century in ODIs after Sir Geoffrey Boycott and incidentally its his birthday today.
Jayasuriya finally got out for 130 with the score reading 201 in 27.5 overs and with Sangakkara still batting at 70 not out, the day will probably get tougher for the Bangladeshis who have bowled nothing but amaeturish stuff to the batsmen.
