It was a tight final as India just about managed to beat South Korea 3-2 in extra-time to clinch the Junior Asia Cup hockey crown.
Diwakar Ram’s goal in the extra time by converting a penalty corner did the trick for India to not only retain the trophy, but to also add to the flavour of India hosting the 2010 Hockey World Cup which was confirmed earlier today. It was his 10th goal of the tournament.
The Indians were almost ruled out of the match as they were trailing by 2 goals until the 52nd minute thanks to Nam Hyan Woo of South Korea who scored both their goals.
However, the Indians fought back with three quick goals, two of which were by Diwakar Ram and one goal by Sunil S P.
This was India’s second consecutive Junior Asia Cup win and India remained unbeaten throughout the tournament.
Earlier, Pakistan finished 3rd by thrashing Japan 7-2.
