Sri Lanka won the toss for the first test match against India at the SSC, Colombo and chose to bat, on a rain curtailed first day. The match is yet to get underway, but the gloomy conditions have changed and there is a possibility of an extended session. Play will also be extended for the next four days.
Mahela Jayawardene won the toss and elected to bat on a pitch that is already showing signs of cracking up. On such a pitch, it won’t be easy to bat last. Thus, Ajantha Mendis makes his test debut and will be partnering Muttiah Muralitharan.
India have also gone in with two spinners and the pace combination of Ishant and Zaheer. Their batting line up selects itself.
Squads:
Sri Lanka: Michael Vandort, Malinda Warnapura, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene (capt), Thilan Samaraweera, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Prasanna Jayawardene (wk), Chaminda Vaas, Nuwan Kulasekera, Muttiah Muralitharan, Ajantha Mendis.
India: Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma.
