Sri Lanka build on day two

The first full session of the first test between India and Sri Lanka at the SSC, Colombo has gone the way of the home team as they built on their overnight score of 85 for 2.

The batsmen at the crease were captain Jayawardene and Warnapura who had opened the batting. Continuing from where he left off, the south paw completed his second ton in test cricket and first against the Indians, as he raced to his century with 14 fours. At the other end, his skipper is looking confident and relaxed as the two went about plundering 120 runs without losing another wicket.

The Indian bowling struggled to get going and with the sun coming out for most part of the session, they continously toiled without success. The worrying aspect is that barring Anil Kumble who was shown due respect, all the other frontline bowlers have gone for over 4 runs an over and that is a bad give away rate in test cricket on any given day.

In the meantime, there was a referral made to the third umpire too, and thus the system was used for the first time in the series. The referral was made by Kumble when umpire Rudi Koertzen turned down Bhajji’s lbw appeal. The decision was not changed and India are now left with only two more referrals in the innings.
