ICC sends second warning to BCCI

A miffed International Cricket Council (ICC) sent a strong second warning to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for starting the Champions League Twenty20 event ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan.

A top BCCI official confirmed that they had received a e-mail from Haroon Lorgat. The newly appointed CEO of ICC, indicated that the Indian Board should rethink about conducting the Champions League from September 29 as it violates the ICC rules of an international event being conducted within a week of their own tournament.

Earlier, the ICC had sent a warning asking the BCCI not to announce the Champions League to be held in three venues but the BCCI did not heed to this warning and announced the event on Wednesday after a prolonged meeting with the representatives of Cricket Australia and the South African cricket board.

The ICC is also worried, with the clouds hanging over Pakistan’s security situation at the moment, all top players might pull out of the Champions Trophy and decide to play in the Champions League. The Champions Trophy broadcasters ESPN-Star Sports had also objected to the idea of Champions League being conducted so close to Champions Trophy.
