Sania crashes out in the second round

Sania Mirza crashed out of the Nordea Nordic Light Open with a gruelling three-set loss to Czech Iveta Benesova in the second round. In an over two-hour contest, Benesova rallied to beat the sixth seeded Sania 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 on Thursday.

The win not just ensured the 25-year-old Benesova a place in the quarter-finals of the $145,000 tier IV hard-court event but also took her win-loss career record against the Indian to 3-0.

Sania has already crashed out of the doubles, losing in the very first round and Thursday’s loss marks yet another low for the Hyderabadi girl, whose form has been disappointing ever since she recovered from a wrist injury, that required a surgery. Her singles ranking has already fallen to 50 from the thirties and she doesn’t look good enough to be competing in the Olympics as the moment.
