India batted first after winning the toss on a placid pitch at Colombo in the third test against Sri Lanka. The pitch was devoid of any dangers as had been predicted earlier by the pitch curator all week.
India made only one change to their eleven with Parthiv Patel coming in for Dinesh Karthik. Parthiv is playing his first test match since 2004.
Sri Lanka also made one change, bringing in Dhammika Prasad for Kulasekara. And the move paid off immediatley as Prasad took three wickets in one session to leave India tattered at 104 for 3 in 24 overs. Sehwag, Dravid and Tendulkar were all out in quick succession as only Gambhir held his fort with a third fifty in the series. Ganguly was at the other end when lunch was taken.
