India@Beijing Olympics 2008: Shooting
In a big setback to India’s medal hopes, Samresh Jung failed to make the finals of the men’s 10m air pistol event following the poor show by Anjali Bhagwat and Avneet Kaur Sidhu on Saturday.
The Melbourne Commonwealth Games multiple gold medallist shot a disappointing score of 570/600 to finish 42nd among 48 shooters in the qualifying event.
Chinese Pang Wei qualified first with a score of 586/600. Jung’s failure to make the final cut marks yet another disappointment for the Indians after women shooters Anjali and Avneet crashed out of the qualifying of their 10m air rifle event at Beijing Shooting Range Hall on Saturday.
Anjali finished 29th with a score of 393 while Avneet Kaur Sidhu was down 10 more places, shooting a poor 389.
