India’s woman judo player Tombi K Devi, who became the first Indian to win gold in an European Judo Union (EJU) championship for seniors last year, lost to Ana Hormigo of Portugal in the round of 32 in the 48kg category at the Olympics Games in Beijing on Saturday.

India’s challenge, however, has not ended as Divya Tewar is yet to battle it out in another judo event.

The opening day at the games has not been good so far as Anjali Bhagwat, Avneet Kaur and Samresh Jung, all failed to make the cut in their respective shooting events, given that shooting is regarded as a major hope for medals this time around.
