India were staring at defeat in the third test against Sri Lanka at Colombo at the end of the third day’s play.
India led by a mere 14 runs when the day’s play was called off. Sehwag and Gambhir dashed off to another good start before Dammika Prasad sent the duo back to the pavilion. Murali removed Ganguly and then Mendis took over, removing Patel with a skidder and fooling Tendulkar with a googly, to hand a big advantage to Sri Lanka.
India’s only hope is the limping Laxman, who twisted his left ankle while fielding and Dravid, looking to get out of the bad patch, as he was batting solidly at the other end on 46 n.o.
India earlier bowled out the hosts for 396 as they took a lead of 147 runs. Kumble, Harbhajan and Zaheer each took three wickets each as the visitors missed Sachin and Laxman in the field coming up with a poor fielding effort as Lanka piled on the runs.
Looks like Sri Lanka will wind up things on the fourth day tomorrow.
