Dola Banerjee and L Bombayla Devi crashed out of the women’s individual archery event at the Beijing Olympics after losing their respective opening round matches on Tuesday.
While Dola lost to Canadian Marie-Pier Beaudet, Bombayla went down to Poland’s Iwona Marcinkiewicz. In a thrilling contest, Dola and Beaudet were tied at 109 at the end of the contest but the Canadian sneaked through after scoring a 10 in the shoot-off. Dola could only manage an eight in the deciding shot. Bombayla, on the other hand, also lost a nail-biting match. The Indian was defeated 101-103 by Marcinkiewicz. Bombayla was neck-an-neck with her rival for most of the match but lost the plot towards the end against Iwona Marcinkiewicz.
