Ace pistol shooter Samresh Jung failed to qualify in the men’s 50m pistol event at the Beijing Olympics. Jung, who finished at 42nd position, shot a series of 88, 92, 91, 86, 90 and 93 with a total of 540 out of 600.
Earlier Jung also failed to make it to the finals of the men’s 10m air pistol event also.
Jung had become the first Indian to earn an Olympic quota in pistol events after Abha Dhillan (1992) and Jaspal Rana (1996) got a ‘Wild Card Entry’ for Olympics. And it is indeed sad that he has failed to put in a good performance at Beijing given that he is a five time gold medalist at the 2006 Commonwealth Games at Melbourne.
