Moldovian Veaceslav Gojan convincingly defeated India’s Akhil Kumar 10-3 as India’s medal hopes in this category were dashed.
A weak defense was the reason why the Indian boxer went down to his opponent whom he was facing for the first time in a competitive environment.
Akhil had started off his Olympic campaign with a bang as he beat Frenchman Ali Hallab 12-5 in a totally one-sided contest and then went on to overcome stiff challenge in the pre-quarters as he defeated current world champion Sergey Vodopyanov on countback by the judges.
India can still hope for a medal from the other two boxers in the quarters, Jitender Singh and Vijender Kumar, but this loss is still a big blow.

but he still did the very good job beating world champ.congrats to him
