India@Beijing Olympics 2008: Table Tennis

Achanta Sharath Kamal beat Alfredo Carneros of Spain 4-2 to move into the second round of men’s singles table tennis event of the Beijing Olympics on Tuesday.

The lanky Indian toiled hard against Carneros, who is also his partner at the San Sebastian Club in Spain, but held on to win the tactical battle 6-11, 12-10, 11-8, 9-11, 11-6 and 11-7 in 45 minutes.

Sharath faces a bigger challenge in the next round with Chinese-born Austrian Chen Weixing, who beat the Indian in their previous meeting in the 2006 Austrian Open.
