India vs Sri Lanka, 2nd ODI: Review

buy books online

India beat Sri Lanka in the second ODI of the five match series in Dambulla.

After winning the toss, India opted to bowl first and the decision paid off as Zaheer Khan ran through the top order with 4 for 21 from ten overs. At one stage, Sri Lanka were 4 for 11 and 44 for 6, but some unimaginative captaincy let the advantage slip away somewhat as Yuvraj Singh and Irfan Pathan were brought on to bowl. Later Kulasekara and Thilan Thushara put on 74 runs for the seventh wicket to propel the score to a better 142. Praveen Kumar also picked up three wickets.

In reply, India batted 30 minutes before the lunch break and were 17 for 2. It appeared as if India will falter in this chase as well, but Yuvraj and Virat Kohli steadied the ship a bit before they both fell to the spinners.

However, the bowlers’ good work was not to be undone as Dhoni and Badrinath stuck around, as Rohit Sharma was out for a duck too. The duo put on 60 runs which proved vital in the end and although Dhoni was out with some distance to go, Badrinath making his debut made sure that India were home and dry.

Zaheer Khan was adjudged the man of the match.
