Bangladesh cricket team coach Jamie Siddons said his team are ready to take part in the Champions Trophy if they are asked to replace any of the top teams like Australia, England, New Zealand or South Africa.
Bangladesh had earlier agreed to tour Pakistan in April-May after Australia canceled their tour citing security concerns, might find themselves in a similar situation if the top four teams decide not to go to Pakistan in September.
Siddons too is hopeful of a similar call, should one of the teams decide against touring Pakistan.
“We’ve been called to Pakistan recently to fill in for the Aussies and we’ll do it again if we get invited. I think we’re free to play if it happens but, personally, I can’t see it happening,” he added.
Bangladesh are currently in Australia to take part in a three-match ODI series and are ranked outside the top eight ODI sides in the world, which is the criterion for participating in the Champions Trophy. If Bangladesh do get invited in place of Australia, their first match will be against India.
