India beat Sri Lanka in the third ODI at the Premdasa Stadium in Colombo by 33 runs and took a 2-1 lead in the series.
However it was a far from comfortable win for them, when it should have been so after the good bowling performance given by the Indian bowlers. Chasing 238 for a win, Sri Lanka were reduced to 94 for 7 as the Indian seamers made the Lankan batting pay on a helpful pitch and swinging ball. Zaheer Khan took 3 for 23 in his ten overs and Munaf Patel got 3 for 42 in his. Praveen Kumar pitched in too with two wickets but he got hit around for runs in the end, as Mahela Jaywardene tried to make a match of it with a galiant effort of 94.
Earlier, India batted first and for the first time in the series, were able to put up a total of more than 200. The Indians batted patiently after a horrible start where they were reduced to 3 for 62. But then Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni hit fifties to guide India to 237 at the end. Rohit Sharma too got 32 to add to the total.
Dhoni was named player of the match for his wonderful and patient batting performance.
