Pakistani pacer Mohammad Asif and his lawyer Hamid Karim are coming to India next week to appear before the Drugs Inquiry Tribunal of the Indian Premier League.
Asif’s ‘B’ sample had also tested positive for the banned substance nandrolone last week in Geneva, Switzerland but the nanogram traces in his urine sample was 5.4, while in his earlier test conducted by the IPL, the nanogram traces came at 6.2.
Karim said no decision had been taken as yet when they would file a formal appeal with the IPL tribunal that has Ravi Bapat, vice-chancellor of Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, former India Test captain Sunil Gavaskar and Shirish Gupte.
The IPL has set up the tribunal to look into Asif’s dope flunk. Bapat has said the difference in traces of banned substance found in Asif’s sample was not surprising and that he would get a fair hearing from the tribunal.
