After winning the toss and electing to bat on a flat, much drier pitch, the Indians got off to a solid start before losing way in their innings in the fourth ODI against Sri Lanka at the Premdasa stadium in Colombo.
Gambhir and Virat Kohli made a confident beginning as runs flowed at 4.5 an over, before Gambhir was accounted for Kulasekara for just 17 runs. Yuvraj Singh was then promoted to number three to try and gain advantage of a large number of overs left, but he failed to do so, as Chaminda Vaas took his 400th ODI wicket. The Indian vice-captain was out for a six ball duck.
However, the impetus so far has been provided by Virat Kohli who made his first ODI fifty. But soon after he was snapped up by Thushara, as a change of pace in the bowling did him in. After 25 overs, India were 113 for 3, as captain Dhoni and Suresh Raina were at the crease, building the innings all over again.
