Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene blamed inconsistent batting for his side’s defeat in the One-Day series against India.
“Our batsmen have not been consistent with the bat. I was really disappointed with the way we played. We had our opportunities but our batsmen did not grab it,” he said after the match.
“If you are not capable of getting the runs it’s quite difficult to win matches. Even the youngsters did not put up a good show. This is something we really have to work with. Our guys need the confidence to go out there and express themselves which we have asked them to do. Unfortunately they haven’t been consistent. We definitely need to work hard and make sure we get it right because this is our future,” he pointed out.
Sanath Jayasuriya’s 60 on Wednesday was the only other fifty for Sri Lanka in the series besides Jayawardene’s two in the previous three matches.
