Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd (KDSL) has served a legal notice on MS Dhoni, asking India’s ODI skipper to appear in Karnataka High Court.

The court has directed Dhoni and his endorsing company, M/s Sporting and Outdoor Solutions, to appear in person or through an advocate or by a representative on September 11 for hearing.

KSDL had roped in Dhoni as brand ambassador of Mysore Sandal soaps in January 2006 to endorse the soap for two years. The company, alleging that Dhoni has failed to meet his commitments, is now claiming Rs 40 lakh as damages from the wicketkeeper-batsman.

According to the agreement Dhoni was to give the company 10 days in two years (five days a year) but could be available only for three days.

The deal was struck between KSDL and the sports promotion agency for Rs 84.85 lakh and Rs 64.42 lakh paid at the time when agreement was signed. The contract was to end in January 2008, but KSDL terminated it in December 2007.
