India tennis icon Leander Paes continued his dazzling US Open doubles run on Tuesday, posting two victories in one day to remain in the hunt for a pair of titles, the mixed doubles and the men’s doubles.
The 35-year-old veteran teamed with Czech Lukas Dlouhy to reach the men’s doubles semi-finals with a 6-3, 6-7 (2/7), 6-3 victory over Sweden’s Robert Lindstedt and Finland’s Jarkko Nieminen.
A few hours later, Paes returned to the Grandstand court and paired with Cara Black of Zimbabwe to defeat Sweden’s Jonas Bjorkman and Nadia Petrova of Russia 6-4, 6-4.
“I can’t complain,” Paes said. “I’ve been blessed. I’ve always enjoyed nice success here at the Open. I’m playing with passion. I’m motivated and it shows on court.”
