Gilchrist made Deccan Chargers captain

VS Laxman’s tenure as the captain of the Indian Premier League side Hyderabad Deccan Chargers came to an abrupt end on Monday as the team announced that Adam Gilchrist would be doing the job from now.

According to an official release, Deccan Chargers have appointed Gilchrist team captain with immediate effect.

“Adam Gilchrist commands respect within the team and right around the cricket world. He has redefined the role of wicketkeeper/batsman in modern cricket,” said a press release from the team, quoting Tim Wright, chief executive of Deccan Chargers.

“I am confident Adam Gilchrist will unite Deccan Chargers’ outstanding talent. Four members of our squad were on the India tour of Sri Lanka, more than any other IPL team, and the quality of our overseas players is well known. These players will play for Gilchrist,” he added.

Deccan Chargers have also appointed Darren Lehmann as Head Coach in place of Indian fielding coach Robin Singh.
