India coach Gary Kirsten has again requested for a full-time manager for the team. In fact he was under the impression that Russell Radhakrishnan, the team’s travel assistant on India’s tour to Sri Lanka recently, was a manager.
“Could you please advise as to when Russell will return to the team? His work is crucial to the effective running of this team. He has done an astounding job as the manager and the players really value his inputs and contribution,” he wrote to the BCCI in a letter.
“We very well know the value of Russell to the team and he is not the manager. He is only the travel assisitant of the team. We will inform him to report at Bangalore during the camp ahead of the first Test match,” informed BCCI’s Chief Administrative Officer Prof Ratnakar Shetty.
“He (Russell Radhakrishnan) has a good understanding of the day to day administrative issues that exist around the team. My own personal opinion is that it is disruptive to the team having a “different manager” for every segment of a tour (Team India had two managers who travelled differently with the team on the last Sri Lanka tour). I really do believe this is a full-time post,” Kirsten again stressed in his letter.
