ICL 20-20s Championship Preview

The second season of the Indian Cricket League gets underway today in what will be a watershed event for the rebel league. An extravagant opening ceremony is planned before the tournament gets underway in Hyderabad as the Hyderabad Heroes take on the Lahore Badshahs in the opening game.

There are nine teams in the fray this year, with Dhaka Warriors the latest entrant, joining the eight from the previous season. The prize money of the tournament has been increased to 2.8 million dollars from 2.5 last year.

What has also increased is the entertainment factor as a host of talk shows, jigs and dance numbers are planned during the whole tournament. Rakhi Sawant will be performing a special cheer leading jig with her troupe in a special presentation.

The ICL also had a “fruitful” meeting with ICC earlier this week, the Sri Lankan government have responded positively and the Federation of International Cricketers’ Association (FICA) too have offered support. Things have begun to look up in this respect as well.

But the biggest test will be matching up to the IPL in terms of show boating and that remains to be seen, if the ICL can achieve it.
