Former West Indies skipper Brian Lara will never be able to play active cricket, according to Himanshu Mody, Business Head of the ICL.
He said, “Brian Lara now has a permanent problem on his left shoulder and will never be able to play the game actively and therefore is unlikely to play for ICL in future as well.”
Lara fractured his left arm in a Carib Beer game earlier this year when he was struck by a delivery by Lionel Baker. The injury, sustained on January 20, was expected to heal in six weeks, but according to physiotherapist Danny Redrup the progress had been slow.
Lara was named captain of the Mumbai Champs for the opening tournament of the Indian Cricket League in December last year. Before going to Australia en route to Mumbai, he also ruled out his further participation in the ICL.
