India vs Australia, 1st Test: India bat out the day
The first test between India and Australia ended as a draw with the home team batting out the last day to prevent the visitors from snatching a win.
Set a target of 299, the hosts were never in contention after they lost Sehwag and Dravid early. Sachin and Gambhir batted to put on a fifty partnership but till then it was too late and they were merely avoiding a defeat.
The focal point was the partnership between Laxman and Tendulkar as the duo batted out 43 overs putting on a slow 77 runs before Tendulkar was out for 49, fifteen runs short of Lara’s world record. Ganguly then held on with the Hyderabadi and they saw off bad light and some tight bowling from Australia.
The series is still 0-0 and the second test starts in Mohali on 17th October.
