A captain’s knock from Craig McMillan of Royal Bengal Tigers enabled his team clinch an easy 35-run victory over Delhi Giants in the ICL 20s Indian Championship here at the LB stadium on Thursday.
Electing to bat first, the Tigers opened with their in-form opening combination of Hamish Marshall and Deep Dasgupta and the duo put their team in the drivers’ seat. Later, Craig McMillan didn’t get perturbed by the fall of wickets. He led from the front and along with Lance Klusener set the Tigers for the perfect onslaught with five overs to go at 114-3.
McMillan took 22 runs of the 16th over off Abhinav Bali before falling off the fifth ball of the same over to end his brilliant innings of 69 off 40 balls, including 4 massive sixes and seven fours. A 22 off 23 balls from the Klusener finally helped the Tigers post a very competitive 171-7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Chasing the huge total, the Giants never looked in dominating position. Opener Dale Benkenstein got out cheaply for 3 and although captain Marvan Attapatu (19) put up a small partnership first with Avishka Gunawardene (25) and then with Abbas Ali (18) but they could never threaten the opposition.
Thereafter, Delhi kept losing wickets at regular intervals and ultimately could reach 136-8 in their alloted 20 overs, falling short by 35 runs.
