The Dhaka Warriors put up a brilliant performance in all departments of the game to beat Delhi Giants comprehensively by 62 runs in the ICL 20s Indian Championship at the Sardar Patel Stadium here on Monday.

It was skipper Marvan Atapattu of Delhi Giants who won the toss and elected to field. But three boundaries by Mohammad Nazimuddin straight away got the Warriors off the track. The 5th over mark had the Warriors placed handsomely at 36 for no loss.

Nazimuddin, who was in great nick today, hit the Shane Bond for two consecutive sixes in one of his overs. And another big six off Sudhindra placed the Warriors at fifty at the end of the 7th over.

Nazimuddin, who was declared man of the match, brought his fifty off only 25 balls, including five hits to the bundary and an equal number of sixes. A mature unbeaten knock from the Warrior’s skipper Habibul Bashar of 28 runs off 23 balls saw the Warriors post a very competitive 174-5 in their allotted 20 overs.

The Giants’ chase opened with a new combination of Monish Mishra and Avishka Gunawardene, who has an eventful two overs from Raza and Sharif that saw a dropped chance, missed run out and close caught behind appeal.

It was a disastrous batting performance from the Giants and they were finally scuttled out by the impressive Warriors for 112 all out, giving the Dhaka Warriors their first win of the tournament.
