It doesn’t get better for India in the series as they took a 1-0 lead on Australia in the second test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2008 at Mohali.
Simply because the win was possible only due to aggressive team play. There is no one particular individual who can be pointed out that he made the most contribution, but the entire set of eleven players on the field.
Sehwag and Gambhir led the way from the beginning, Sachin & Sourav capitalized, Dhoni made sure the advantage didn’t fritter away and the bowlers did the rest. Amit Mishra bowled his team to the doorstep of victory with a five wicket haul in his debut test and then in the second innings, Ishant, Bhajji and Zaheer took turns at dismantling the Aussie batting line up.
While Dhoni led his team to glory with clever aggression, it is hard to say if Australia have gained anything from this test. Their batting failed twice in two innings, while the frailties in the bowling were truly exposed. If there was one area where they could have outclassed the Indians, it was fielding but their captain conceded, that the home side beat them there too.
It is indeed difficult to see the Aussies bouncing back from this mauling. The third test begins on 29th October at Delhi.
