In a complete annihilation of the Royal Bengal Tigers, Ahmedabad Rockets romped home by 10 wickets with eight overs to spare in the 15th game of the of the ICL 20s Indian Championship in front of an exuberant home crowd at the Sardar Patel stadium.
After Man of the match Bhima Rao’s four-wicket haul helped the home team restrict the Tigers to 131, Murray Goodwin (61 not out) and Ryan Campbell (66 not out) cashed in on a hapless looking Bengal bowling to make the modest target look minuscule. The duo went on a rampage, clobbering 18 fours and five sixes in the chase.
The Rockets were off the blocks in a jiffy during their chase with Campbell smashing the first three balls of their innings for boundaries. Bengal’s new ball bowlers Abu Nechim and Sujay Tarafdar bowled only one over each with both giving 15 runs. Rockets never looked back as Campbell and Goodwin brought up the 100 of the innings in only the ninth over.
Earlier, the Bengal innings had got off to a steady start before Rakesh Patel castled Deep Dasguta (11) in the fourth over. From there, began the downslide for Bengal with Bhima Rao acting as the chief catalyst. First, the young spinner sent back Hamish Marshall (20) with a stunning pick and throw and then took four for 15 in three overs to pack Bengal in 20 overs.
This is Tigers’ first defeat of the tournament.
