The Delhi Giants lost their first match at home by five runs to the Chennai Superstars in match 17 of the ICL 20s Indian Championship at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Gurgaon.
Chasing 167, Marvan Atapattu and Monish Mishra gave the Delhi Giants chase a promising start. The home side reached their fifty in the 6th over to set up the chase. It was P Syed who broke the 60-run partnership, castling the dangerous Mishra for 36 that included three fours and two sixes.
A brilliant piece of fielding then saw the unfortunate run out of skipper Atapattu curtailing his promising innings of 25. A disciplined performance in the field from the Chennai Superstars curbed the Delhi Giants scoring rate placing them 106-4 needing 61 runs off the last five overs.
And despite a late onslaught from young Dhruv Mahajan, of 21 runs of 8 balls; the hosts fell short of the target by narrow margin of 5 runs. A blazing 28-ball 41 by R Sathish and an unbeaten 51 by Hemang Badani propelled the Chennai Superstars to 166-6 in 20 overs.
