A brilliant all-round performance by the Dhaka Warriors saw them romp home to a comfortable eight wicket win over Chandigarh Lions in the ICL20s Indian Championship here at the Tau Devi Lal stadium in Panchkula on Friday.
It was was clearly the efforts from the two premier spinners Mohammad Rafique (3-28) and Mosharraf Hossain (2-17) that stood out as they claimed five off the nine wickets to enable Dhaka Warriors to restrict the Lions to 137-9 in their alloted 20 overs. And then Man-of-the-Match Shahriar Nafees’s unbeaten knock of 73 runs off 60 balls, including 10 fours and a six, helped Dhaka team reach the modest target with over 2 overs to spare.
After Warriors opted to field, the Chandigarh side, who came into the match with a resurgent win in their previous encounter, was off to a solid start with Tejinder Pal Singh scoring 15 runs off the first over from Sharif. But in no time, Mohammad Sharif struck back, cutting short TP Singh’s promising innings of 13 runs off 18 balls, laced with three hits to the fence.
Thereafter, Tapash Baisya’s eventful fourth over brought serious trouble for the Lions with Sarabjit Singh and Lou Vincent (run out) send back to the dressing room with the scoreboard reading a poor 37-3 at the end of the 5th over.
