Yuvraj Singh’s all round performance helped India beat England in the 2nd ODI of the seven match series and thus take a 2-0 series lead.
The left hander scored 118 runs off 122 balls with 15 fours and two sixes as India reached a safe target after initial hiccups. Winning the toss and electing to bat first, India were in a spot of bother early on as they lost three quick wickets. Sehwag, Raina and Rohit Sharma were all out within the space of 29 runs to leave India in a troublesome situation. Gambhir and Yuvraj then brought up the rescue act as the former scored 70 runs off 76 balls carrying on his great form. Later in the innings, Yusuf Pathan struck 50 off only 29 balls to take India to a challenging total in the end.
When England replied, they started horribly and as a result never got going, when Ian Bell was run out. Prior, Owais Shah, Pieterson and Flintoff all got starts but none of them was able to make it to a winning performance. Yuvraj also picked up four wickets for 28 runs in his ten overs to complete an excellent all round display for his team.
The 3rd ODI is in Kanpur on 20th November 2008.
