Champions League T20 to be held in Oct 2009

The first edition of the Champions League Twenty20 has been called off.

The governing council, comprising the founder Board members – Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Cricket Australia (CA) and Cricket South Africa (CSA) held a conference on Friday to finalise new dates for the tournament but they decided to call it off after considering all aspects including the international calendar and the domestic schedules of the participating teams.

Now the first edition will be played in India in October 2009. The event scheduled for 2008 has been cancelled.

Six teams – two from each of the founding Board members – are confirmed as participants. Other participating teams will be finalised by the end of January 2009.

Invitations will be extended to the winners/finalists of the respective countries’ domestic Twenty20 tournaments of the participating countries.

The first edition of the Champions League Twenty20 was originally scheduled to be played in Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai from December 3-10, 2008 but was postponed after the terror attack in Mumbai on November 26.

Lalit Modi, Chairman, Champions League Twenty20 and Vice-President, Board of Control for Cricket in India, said, “The inaugural edition of the Champions League Twenty20 will now be held in India in October 2009. The Governing Council, comprising the founder Board members took this collective decision after taking into account all aspects.”
