The first match of the new season on day one will be played between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians in Newlands, Cape Town. The match will be preceded by a gala opening ceremony as promised by IPL commissioner Lalit Modi.
Mumbai Indians will be looking to get a winning start to their campaign and their team is looking really settled from last year. They have Sachin Tendulkar fit to play from the beginning of the tournament and Shaun Pollock and Jonty Rhodes as coaches which will be a big asset in the South African conditions. Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra will bolster their bowling line up while Mohd. Ashraful and JP Duminy will make their IPL debuts in the middle order for them. They even have Shikhar Dhawan waiting in the wings and therefore may just be the surprise team in this year’s competition as they are looking balanced overall.
Chennai Super Kings also have a couple of additions to them. Andrew Flintoff will be making his debut in the IPL while Stephen Fleming will be their new coach. They will be led by Indian captain MS Dhoni and that will be a huge plus for them as well. They will also be looking to get off to a good start and get points on the board in the first game. Mathew Hayden and Muralitharan will be available to them for the whole tournament which will be a huge plus. They are in a good position to atleast reach the semifinals again this season.
The match begins at 4 pm IST and the opening ceremony will begin at 2 pm IST.
