IPL: Chennai Super Kings beat Delhi Dare Devils

The Chennai Super Kings registered a comfortable 18 run victory over the Delhi Daredevils at the Wanderers in Johannesburg on Saturday.

The Chennai Super Kings started in blistering fashion with openers Matthew Hayden and Murali Vijay, smashing 36 runs off the first 28 balls. Raina who along with Subra Badrinath helped accelerate the scoring after fall of the two openers. The pair added 66 for the third wicket in 6.5 overs in partnership that had the crowd at the Bullring at their boisterous best. The Super Kings slumped thereafter with big hitters, Dhoni, Morkel and Oram collectively adding just 15 runs. In all they lost six wickets for 33 runs in the last five overs as the Chennai Super Kings were bowled out for 163.

Gautam Gambhir, captaining the Delhi Daredevils in place of the injured Virender Sehwag was gone off the first ball of the fourth over, quite magnificently caught – by Suresh Raina diving one-handed to his right – at backward point. Off the very next ball Sudeep Tyagi clean bowled AB de Villiers and when Jakati claimed his first wicket by bowling Tillakaratne Dilshan for 13, the Delhi Daredevils were in trouble at 53/3. arthik made 52 off 31 balls with seven fours and a six. Just two balls later Jakati bowled Pradeep Sangwan for a duck to end with figures of 4/24 from four overs. The Delhi Daredevil’s collapse from 120/3 after 15 overs to 145/8 at the end of the match, proved far more costly than the Chennai Super Kings one earlier in the afternoon.
