In a pulsating match at Durban, the Royal Challengers Bangalore stunned the Chennai Super Kings to keep their own hopes of reaching the Indian Premier League semi-finals with a two-wicket victory.

Captain Anil Kumble, Jacques Kallis and Ranganath Vinay Kumar all picked up two wickets as the Super Kings were bowled out for 129 and although the Challengers wobbled, they reached their victory target in the final over. Matthew Hayden top scored with 60 for the Super Kings, hitting five fours and three sixes during his 38-ball innings but no other batsman could pass 18, the score registered by captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Kumble, who opened the bowling, took two for 12, Kallis two for 18 and Vinay Kumar two for 30.

The Challengers were then indebted to a second successive innings of substance from Ross Taylor. After his 81 in 33 balls saw off the Kolkata Knight Riders, a contrasting innings of 46 in 50 balls got his side to the brink and although he was dismissed with five balls to go, Praveen Kumar (12 not out) and Vinay Kumar (6 not out) saw their side home with two balls to spare. Virat Kohli offered Taylor support with 38 after they had fallen to 30 for three early on, the pair putting on 50 for the fourth wicket. Albie Morkel and Jacob Oram picked up two wickets for the Super Kings.

Bangalore Royal Challengers now have 12 points from 12 games and Chennai have 13 points from 11 games.
