Matthew Hayden’s fifth Indian Premier League half-century this season got the Chennai Super Kings back to winning ways as they beat the Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in Port Elizabeth to book their place in the semi-finals.
Hayden was unbeaten on 60 as his side reached 151 for three with five balls to spare after Mumbai had closed on 147 for five. The former Australian opening batsman hit four fours and a six with Mahendra Singh Dhoni (23 not out), Subramaniam Badrinath (22) and Suresh Raina (20) all chipping in to close out an important win after they had lost their previous match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
South African JP Duminy top scored for the Indians with 62, hitting four fours and two sixes in his 54-ball innings with Sanath Jayasuriya making 30 in 17 balls and Abhishek Nayar unbeaten on 33.
No bowler in the match managed to take more than one wicket – Albie Morkel, Sudeep Tyagi and Raina grabbing one apiece for Chennai before Lasith Malinga, Dhawal Kulkarni and Dwayne Bravo struck for Mumbai.
