IPL Final: Bangalore Royal Challengers v Deccan Chargers Preview

The final of the IPL season 2 will be played on Sunday at the Wanderers Johannesburg between Bangalore Royal Challengers and Deccan Chargers. These two teams finished 7th and 8th last season and now will be competing for the 1st-2nd spot in an amazing turn around in their fortunes.

Bangalore Royal Challengers had a slow start to the tournament and then after Kevin Pietersen left, Anil Kumble’s captaincy did so much good to them as they never really looked like second best from then on. They were always willing to fight with the bat or the ball and the whole team has chipped in with performances, rather than a few individuals. They rely on all round skill rather than any one quality and that is their biggest strength.

Deccan Chargers were in hot form when the tournament started and then they lost a few games and just about qualified for the semis with 14 points from 14 games. For them their bowling has been very good but they are missing Fidel Edwards although RP Singh has been excellent for them. But they rely heavily on their batting and their batsmen are the key to their fortunes. Adam Gilchrist, Herschelle Gibbs, Andrew Symonds and Rohit Sharma will have to collectively fire in the last game if they are to win the trophy, whether batting first or second. If they are out for a low score, their game is pretty much over.
